Local children’s swimming club raises £2000 for Children in Need
After waiting for the Gazette to print the article regarding the efforts made for Children in Need, they have managed to get it very wrong. This is in fact the article that was submitted.
Forward Hillingdon swimming squad had a wonderfully successful evening last week when they turned their usually Friday night training session into a sponsored swim to raise money for Children in Need. ‘The idea for the sponsored swim came from two of the children themselves. We thought that it was such a great idea that we asked the whole club if they wanted to take part,’ said Charlotte Lee, one of the club’s coaches. Charlotte went on to say, ‘The enthusiasm that the children showed was amazing and we’re so proud of what they all achieved.’
A total of 30 people joined in the swim, including the Head Coach, Iain Henderson. Iain and the coaches were incredibly impressed with the children’s performances, with five of the children swimming an amazing 2 miles in just one hour. Over the rest of the club 11 children swam 1 ½ miles or more and all of them reached the 1 mile target, with the exception of two of the younger children who battled through injuries to take part in the event. The youngest children swimming were just 7 years old and some of them only joined the club this term. They all did wonderfully well with both their swimming and the huge amount of money they raised.
All of the swimmers and helpers were rewarded after their hard work with delicious home-made cakes produced by two of the mums.
Forward Hillingdon squad would like to thank everyone at the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex for being so very helpful and supportive during their sponsored swim.
